A Taste of Autumn

We had been experiencing a spell of Summer weather last week, ranging in the 80's and 90's. High humidity levels, the thick air accompanied by the forceful Santa Ana Winds. A handful of lazy days, lounging high in the branches of my apple tree, a book in hand, and-- if I was careful enough-- a cup of coffee in the other. (A recently mastered art of mine. Climbing my apple tree with coffee.)
But despite the comfortable weather, I have undeniably been longing for cooler weather, more suitable to the season we dwell in. I was envious of those in the Eastern states, wearing long sleeved knits and wool coats. But finally, cold weather finally decided to keep us company in this mid October.
Yesterday, with a chilled breeze and thick clouding, we walked to an abandoned house a handful of streets over from our home. The old home resides on half an acre, a quaint place with a bright red barn positioned beside it. Scattered amongst the thick, overgrown yard are many fruit barring plants. A grape vine, a Black Berry bush that at one point nearly swallowed the entire property, and many trees. A lemon tree, apple tree, orange tree, and a walnut tree.

Each ever so often we go to harvest the fruits. Oranges and lemons in the Winter, grapes in the Spring, black berries in the summer, and apples and walnuts in the fall.

And so, we harvested the apples and walnuts.

Once we got home, we put on a fresh pot of coffee, and -- huddle in a circle in the living room-- we spent a few hours cracking the hundreds of nuts we had collected. Then, we roasted them in the oven.

And I must say, they were the best walnuts I have ever had. (And that's coming from someone who has never preferred walnuts.)

Until we meet again,

It's a dream of mine, really. One day I want to tour France on a lovely bicycle. Maybe with my little pal, Amanda. But someday, I will.
Here are a few things that make me lust to travel even more. I keep looking at all of these lovely things, but it's painful! But I can't stop! It's like eating lots of chocolate. :(

I'm In Love With Today

Today is the 2nd of July... I just thought I'd let you know.
June 12 was the first day of summer this year, but it's only just begun here in my little part of Southern California. The past few mornings have been clear and bright-- not a bit of overcast in sight. The weather is getting gorgeously warm, and my adorable red beach cruiser has been my way of transportation lately.

Anyways, I missed the Farmer's Market yesterday. :( I was going to go and buy some peaches for a tart, but I had a rehearsal. (Yea, I'm your regular thespian. ;) ) So, I'll be riding my bike down next Friday. Till then, I'll have to figure something else out. :\ Food Network, baby! Love their recipes. But I would love some suggestions on what I should bake for a 4th of July party. Ideas?

Here are a few things I've been dreadfully in love with lately.
Park St's Impeccable Taste in Fashion, and this adorable White Children's Cardigan. (I wish it came in my size.)

And these two studly men. Jeff Bridges (left), and James Dean (right). Goodness me... They make my heart pitter patter. Haha

Anyways, everyone have a good Saturday!

Much Love!

White Sugar Summers

It's been somewhere in the back of my head for the past few weeks. It's creeping over the horizon.

Summer.

I'm excited about warmer weather. I got to crack out the trusty old shorts and my beach cruiser will be put to use once more. Though, I am terribly sad to neatly fold my long sleeves and scarves and place them in the bottom of my desser, thoughts of the beach make me feel better.

But, anyways, lately we've been enjoying mild weather (certainly not my favorite), but warm weather is on the horizon, I hope. I'm ready for some beach weather!

Well, here are some amazing photos by  Lissy Esse. All of her photos are brilliantly thought up, each with different, unique themes. Enjoy!

Until we meet again,

YowaYowa

Natsumi the Yowayowa camera woman, known for taking elevation photos, has recently  been my inspiration. Her work is professional, unique, and just all around gorgeous! I wish I had the patience to actually follow through with a photo project-- because I would certainly want to do something like this! I just love it all!

You can find her lovely website here. She uploads one photo every single day! Crazy, right?

Floating Shelves

I've redecorated my workshop/bedroom. Despite the fact that I must share my humble abode with my sweet sister, I can still turn it into a workshop. I was cramped for the longest time, trying to find places for my materials that would keep them accessible-- without looking cluttered. I failed! There wasn't enough space for it to be a functional work place while looking quaint! It was messy and my work was constantly askew across the floors, or on my bed, even in the closet! Then, I stumbled across a photo of someone's office, with these adorable floating shelves.

I had to have one.

I asked my father to make me one, and it took him a few weeks before he finally found the time-- but he built me one! And I must say, he did a gorgeous job on it. The clean simplicity of it just makes it so wonderful! I really do have a wonderful papa. :) Now I can have a workshop that's cute!!!

I love it so much! But I just wanted to share. :)

Much love!

Poppy's Second

Emily Bilbrey threw her daughter, Poppy, an owl themed birthday party. She had owl shaped sweets, and little owl dolls for party favors. And also had a few of our Owl Lollipops! But I just wanted to gush over the adorable party-- that I wish had been my own. Emily did a wonderful job of coordinating her daughter's sweet party.

You can find Emily's sweet blog here. And the lollies are avaliable here.

Much love,
Mariah

The Honey Trees

Heading towards a long day at Co-op. Not looking forward to it. But I stumbled across this lovely song by the band The Honey Trees. Never heard of them before, but they certainly set a peaceful mood. I'd also love to live within the music video. Enjoy!

Wish me luck!

Pretzels and Jonsi

So, I found this recipe on Rachel's Elephantine blog. They looked SO good, I just had to make them! I was going to wait and make them with Amanda, but I couldn't last.

This morning, I got my coffee, checked my Etsy, and cleaned the kitchen before recruiting a few siblings to help me. We followed this recipe, The Mall Pretzels. There is a video to make things much easier! We had to substitute All-Purpose Flower with Whole Wheat Flower, because we had run out.

We made two batches, 8 per batch. We made the classic, salty mall pretzels. And then we made some with brown sugar. The sugar ones were my favorite.

And for some tunes, we listened to Jonsi.

Until later,
Mariah

Good Morning

Tuesday Love

I've been fascinated with Elephants, as of late. Here are a few beautiful elephant themed pieces. They've infested my inspiration, and I wouldn't dare complain. They truly are peculiar, yet captivating creatures.

I found these intriguing photos on Steven Beckley's website. They are absolutely stunning! His work is gorgeous, but these were the ones that stood out the most to me. (I'm sure you can guess why.)
You can find more of his work for sale at his Etsy shop, StevenBeckly.

And for a little audio to go with it, I've been addicted to Rachael Yamagata's 'Elephant'.

I'd have to say that this was a nice 'first post'. I can't wait to post more!
Much love!
